So you could go to lower level area, add 20+ levels using Normin, but still mow them down with Armatus spells. tbh tho, stats are very reliant on your equipment in Zestiria. You can also see enemies on the map so you can try to avoid them if you wish. It's certainly possible to overlevel, also there's quite a few different difficulty modes and a new game + mode.
